Inspector Gitesh Kapil receives medal from CM Yogi for encounter bravery
(Amit Sharma) Lucknow। Posted in the Bareilly Zone Inspector Gitesh Kapil, who played a key role in the police operation that led to the killing of two armed suspects following a robbery of more than Rs 9 lakh, was honoured with a Gallantry Medal by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Thursday.
Kapil, currently posted at the Bareilly Zone office, received the medal and a certificate of appreciation at a ceremony recognising police personnel for exceptional courage and dedication. His gallantry award had been announced on the occasion of Republic Day in 2025.
The incident dates back to a robbery in the Kohadapir area, where armed men allegedly looted more than Rs 9 lakh from the manager of a businessman and fled. Following the incident, police teams launched a coordinated search and began tracking the suspects’ possible escape routes.
The chase eventually led to the Bareilly bypass near Ahladpur. Police teams intercepted the suspects and, according to the police account, came under fire from them. In the ensuing exchange of fire, both suspects were killed. A substantial portion of the looted cash was also recovered from the spot.
Kapil was recognised for his role in tracking the suspects, coordinating the pursuit and leading the police team during the encounter.
