Dr. Tanu Jain says every day offers an opportunity to improve oneself and contribute to society
Amit Sharma/Bareilly। A person’s life is defined not merely by the heights attained, but by the manner in which responsibilities are discharged and the difference one’s efforts make to the lives of others, Cantonment Board CEO Dr. Tanu Jain said at a felicitation programme held in her honour.Reflecting on the meaning and purpose of life, Dr. Jain said success and adversity were both transient phases. While success called for humility, difficult circumstances demanded patience and perseverance. The ability to remain balanced in both situations, she said, was a measure of a person’s inner strength.Time, she observed, was among the most valuable resources available to an individual and should not be spent solely in pursuit of personal achievement. It should also be used to undertake constructive work for the larger good of society. Dr. Jain said every individual possessed knowledge, experience or some form of ability that could be put to meaningful use. Knowledge, she said, acquired greater value when shared; those capable of helping people in need should come forward, while responsibilities entrusted to an individual should be discharged with integrity. The discussion also drew upon the Indian philosophical tradition, particularly the idea of Karma Yoga in the Bhagavad Gita, which places emphasis on performing one’s duty with sincerity rather than being consumed by anxiety over its outcome. The central message of the programme was that life should not be viewed merely as a race for positions, recognition or achievements, but as a journey shaped by purposeful action and social responsibility.
A meaningful life, Dr. Jain said, is one in which a person leaves behind something positive through his or her conduct and work wherever they go.
